They Still Don't Get It

Despite an outcry by many parents in the Issaquah School District against the proposal to adopt "Discovering Math", the Board of Education is continuing to push this failed program with reckless disregard for the damage it will cause to another generation of students.

Here’s the latest update for ISD to go through the motions of getting “public input”.

The remaining opportunity for concerned parents:
  • Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009: 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Liberty High School
  • Monday, Nov. 16, 2009: 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Skyline High School

Given the intransigence of the Board of Education on this matter, it will take a considerable effort by parents, students, teachers, and concerned citizens to resolve this situation. If we leave these people to their own devices it is clear they will make the wrong decisions to the detriment of thousands of students in the district.

  1. Show me the numbers. Is there a Math achievement test taken by students who have experienced the the Discover Math series, with numbers that can be compared to students who experienced other math curricula? It should be the job of the school board, district staff, or committee members to find and share this kind of information. Has that been done?
